We congratulate our associated company KREBS+KIEFER on being awarded at the renowned Ernst & Sohn Ingenieurbaupreis 2022 (Construction Engineering Award) for their consulting engineering services for the Great Mosque of Algiers. The Ernst & Sohn Ingenieurbaupreis has been awarded for 35 years and honours outstanding achievements in structural engineering.
The world's third largest mosque is a monumental cultural building and can host up to 120,000 visitors. The award particularly recognised the demanding challenges, such as dealing with the potential earthquake hazard and the interdisciplinarity of the project.
Within the masterplanning of KSP ENGEL and KREBS+KIEFER International, KREBS+KIEFER Ingenieure GmbH in Karlsruhe was responsible for the complete structural planning and execution supervision of the various buildings of the mosque complex. The 265 m high minaret is the tallest in the world and also the tallest building in Africa.
The expert jury of the award was of the opinion that KREBS+KIEFER succeeded in harmonising the high aesthetic demands with the technical requirements.
