Damage Assessment Study (DAS) – Stage III

Beschreibung

Due to the political situation in Yemen, the initial focus of the Water Sector Programme shifted from Institutional Development and Strengthening of the Yemen Water Sector to strengthening resilience and capacities of Local Corporation (LC) to maintain and enhance water and sanitation services through and after the crisis. Consequently, the GIZ supported the Damage Assessment Study, carried out in 2014 and 2015. Respective reports provided initial assessment results about the prevailing condition of twelve water corporations and affiliated utilities and branches and gave first recommendations to maintain and improve the water and sanitation services and institutional operation.
This BMZ funded Project “Damage Assessment Study (DAS) - Stage  III, Inventory of Water Sector Support and Rehabilitation Measures for Selected Urban Areas in Yemen” contributed to the updating of the LC infrastructure and institutional condition and prepared comprehensive proposals for emergency relief and investment measures as well as required capacity development measures for implementation during the conflict and in post-conflict.
The objectives of stage III of the DAS were as follows:

• Develop a strategic approach to build up the resilience of the LCs in maintaining water and sanitation services
• Prepare technical assistance packages for capacity development at the institutional and human resource level
• Prepare series of short-term investment packages for repair and rehabilitation
