Beschreibung

In the city of Kabul, most households are still using a dry toilet system, the toilet systems are not well maintained, and the collection of excreta has decreased, resulting in deteriorating sanitary conditions. This has been aggravated given that the population in Kabul and surrounding areas has been drastically increasing, due to internal displacements from rural areas and return of refugees from neighbouring countries.
Most districts lack sewerage systems, including storm water drains, and functioning wastewater or faecal sludge treatment plants. The trucks carrying the faecal sludge from the septic tanks, pit latrines and other possible sources, discharge it either within the city or into the Kabul River causing environmental and health hazards.
This project covers the preparation of a sanitation concept including several sanitation options in order to achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and end open defecation which in turn will reduce illness attributed to unsafe sanitation and lack of hygiene. Moreover, the project will also cover preparation of Digital Elevation models and GIS Maps increasing the availability of high-quality, timely and reliable data disaggregated by geographic location.
